Levach drove the Talbot for nearly 23 hours after taking the lead halfway through the race. He was set for a historic win when the crankshaft broken, to the dismay of the French spectators.

Celebrate one of endurance racing's most elegant machines with the 1952 Le Mans Talbot T26GS, beautifully recreated as a 1/32 scale slot car by George Turner Models in the UK.

The Talbot-Lago T26GS represented the final flowering of the great French sporting marques in international competition. Powered by a robust 4.5-litre twin-cam straight-six engine, the T26GS combined speed, reliability and graceful styling at a time when endurance racing demanded as much from the driver as it did from the car.

At the 1952 24 Hours of Le Mans, Talbot entered a determined challenge against increasingly sophisticated opposition from Mercedes-Benz, Ferrari and Jaguar. While the ageing T26GS design was beginning to show its age, its strength and dependability remained impressive. The race demonstrated Talbot's commitment to endurance racing and marked the end of an era for one of France's most prestigious manufacturers before sports car technology moved decisively towards lighter, more aerodynamic designs.
