 A racing car with a fascinating twist — the Alfa Romeo Giulietta Spider Sebring was built for competition, yet ironically never raced at Sebring.

This 1/32 scale slot car kit by George Turner Models, UK, recreates one of the rarest and most distinctive Giulietta Spiders of the 1950s.

Based on the lightweight Giulietta Spider Veloce, the 750G Sebring was developed for the American racing market at the request of Alfa Romeo's US importer, Max Hoffman. It featured competition-focused modifications including lightweight construction, simplified interior fittings, a Perspex racing screen and Alfa Romeo's superb 1,290cc twin-cam four-cylinder engine.

The car was intended for the famous 12 Hours of Sebring, one of America's premier endurance races. Held on the notoriously bumpy concrete and asphalt surface of a former military airfield in Florida, Sebring demanded exceptional speed, reliability and durability. Despite being developed with the event in mind, the Giulietta Sebring programme was cancelled and the cars never actually took the start there.

The “Sebring” Giulietta was not without a racing career, however. Similar competition-prepared Giulietta Spiders went on to compete successfully in American club racing, demonstrating the remarkable performance that could be extracted from Alfa Romeo's compact sports car.

George Turner Models captures this unusual piece of Alfa Romeo racing history in 1/32 scale, making an evocative slot car that combines elegant Italian styling with genuine competition pedigree.
